As Christmas gets closer, many people will be trying to lose a bit of weight before they stuff themselves with turkey and all the trimmings in two months’ time.

And diet expert Dr Michael Mosley, who invented the Fast 800 diet, has advice for anyone looking to get in shape.

He claims that following the Fast 800 weight-loss plan can lead to people shedding two stone in just 10 weeks, The Express reported.

There’s not that long until Christmas, but if you want to see how far you can get, this is what is involved.

Fast 800 starts with an “intensive, rapid weight-loss stage”. Be aware, however, that it involves eating far fewer calories than is considered a healthy daily intake for an average man or woman, and limiting calories can lead to a diet containing too few vitamins and minerals. If you choose to follow the weightloss method, you should do so for only a limited period of time, and with medical supervision if necessary.

If limiting yourself to between 800 and 1,000 calories a day feels impossible or not right for you, there is another weightloss option below.

The diet expert said of his low-calorie weightloss plan: “Eat 800 to 1,000 calories a day, spread out over two or three low-carbohydrate meals, and try to avoid snacking.

“Stay on this plan for two to 12 weeks, depending on how much weight you want to lose.

“Some people on it like to spread their 800 calories over three meals.

“Others find it easier to eat them in two, with a late-morning brunch and an early evening meal.

“Likewise, some people prefer to consume up to half their calories as meal-replacement shakes [but] others want real food for every meal.”

For those who feel The Fast 800 is a little too extreme, however – and be warned that 800 calories is not many calories at all – there is always The New 5:2 diet.

This is where you eat 800 calories a day on two days of the week, and a ‘normal’, Mediterranean-style diet for the remaining five days.

Dr Michael said: “You can spread your calories over two or three meals but try to eat within a time window, such as 8am to 8pm.
